Brief Bio
I was an English literature major in college
with an art minor; it took me awhile to realize that, at heart, I was
a creative artist. I began making my welded sculptures back in the 1970s.
Gradually I added fiber to the pieces until I called myself a fiber sculptor,
and the metal became the skeleton. Then I returned to using mainly metal
with some found objects and, and you can see pictures of my most recent
Sculptures which were inspired by the Serpent
Mound, a prehistoric earthwork located nearby in Ohio.
During a trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico in the mid-1980s, I discovered the
beauty, texture and design of beads. Stimulated by the small treasures,
I started a line of jewelry that combines new and antique beads with semi-precious
stones and other small ornaments that I collect during my travels around
the world. Feel free to view samples of my one-of-a-kind Jewelry
creations.
I never took a painting class; instead, I turned to a painter, who worked
in encaustic, and whose art I admired, to request painting help. She let
me work along side of her and answered my many questions. I found encaustic,
a hot wax medium, to be user friendly, and began painting the rock walls
and the petroglyphs which I love and have visited all over the world.
The encaustic medium has also served me well with geometric patterns based
on the painted homes in West African villages. I
received 3 shows in 2007, based on mainly encaustic paintings.
